SPAN/HIS346 España Medieval: cristianos, judíos y musulmanes
Course Description Este curso pretende ofrecer un panorama de la Historia medieval española (711-1492) y un acercamiento a los grupos que integraron la sociedad medieval, con especial énfasis en el papel de las distintas religiones (cristianismo, islamismo, judaísmo). Se hará un recorrido por la historia, la sociedad y la cultura de los reinos cristianos y del territorio musulmán de Al-Ándalus, así como de las comunidades judías (Sefarad) en estos dos ámbitos. El curso tendrá por objeto, asimismo, conocer el legado medieval y la importancia de las aportaciones de la cultura musulmana y judía en la Historia de España. El estudio de la Sevilla medieval y de la influencia de este período histórico en su fisonomía urbanística actual ocupará también un capítulo importante en el programa de esta asignatura, con referencias constantes que conecten los distintos puntos del temario con la realidad de nuestra ciudad y su entorno.
Course Reflective Narrative This is a course that I took in Sevilla during my study abroad experience. This class allowed my achieve the goal of fulfilling MLO 4. This course gave me the opportunity to learn about a secondary culture other than Hispanic cultures. In this course I learned about Jewish and Muslims who were living in Spain during the Medieval Times. This course focused in the culture of Jewish and Muslims. In this course I learned about the structure of their cities and their relationship with Spaniards. Furthermore I learned about their religious practices and believes. In this class I was able to compare the cultures mentioned before, it was interesting to see their similarities and differences. The most interesting aspects of this cultures is that they think differently than Hispanic cultures, mainly in the religious aspect. Also they think differently in their way of living and their way of socializing. It was interesting to learn about two cultures of people who lived in Spain from the years 711- 1492. This two cultures were in contact with the Spaniard culture but in the majority they remained strong in their own culture. It is important to have knowledge of a secondary culture, being open minded helps when it comes to understand other people better. In this class I learned about these two cultures very deeply. I evely learned the terms they used for certain things. This class not only develop my knowledge of a second culture but of another language. It was interesting to learn new words and different cultures. In conclusion this class also developed my language knowledge because the professor spoke Castilian Spanish. I learned more academic terms, and the Castilian linguistic variation. For this class I wrote an essay analyzing religious readings from the Jewish culture, this helped me develop my writing and reading skills.
