SPAN 345: Bilingualism in the Spanish-Speaking World
Course description This course will first explore the nature of bilingualism, focusing on its neurolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and linguistic aspects. Students will examine the most important concepts and research questions in these areas. In addition, the class will focus on bilingualism in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world, including the examination of bilingual education programs (e.g., immersion programs) and important political matters connected to them. (Credit/ No Credit Available) (Prereq: Any Spanish 300 or 400 level course)
Course Reflective Narrative This course gave me the opportunity to develop my knowledge about linguistics, and bilingualism. I was able to learn about different dialects from Latin America. This course also helped me to develop my presentational skills through a group presentation. The professor also gave me the opportunity to reflect on the readings that were assigned for class. I learned so much from the presentations of my classmates, it also helped me to improve my listening skills. This course also helped me to fulfill the major learning outcome about language proficiency and cultural knowledge. The reading helped a lot to develop my language proficiency, I had readings in English and in Spanish it helped me develop my language in both languages.This course helped me to develop my knowledge about linguistics.
